Virpi Räisänen-Midth, one of Finland's brightest rising opera talents, has garnered an impressive list of honours and achievements both as a mezzo soprano and earlier as a concert violinist. Next to her successful violin career singing was always her other passion. After finishing her singing diploma with honours she has launched a blooming singing career as well.
Now her warm mezzo voice and her strong musicality is leading her from one success to another. Besides mastering the traditional mezzo soprano repertoire, she has also established herself as a champion of contemporary music having world premiered dozens of new works, most of them written and dedicated to her.
Her latest achievement has brought her a re-invitation to Salzburger Festspiele in the summer 2010, where she will sing in the world premiere of the new opera of Wofgang Rihm Dionysos. In 2009 Salzburger Festspiele Virpi sang one of the leading roles in Luigi Nono's opera Al gran sole carico d'amore. In June 2009 she was seen in the leading role of Elmira in Händel's seldomly performed opera Floridante in The International Händel Festspiele in Halle. During the same summer she also appeared as a soloist of the much praised Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra in the renowned Korsholm Music Festival, Finland.
