"Räisänen's strength lies in the dynamic flexibility of her voice and in her ability to express the nuances of music and drama."

-Kaleva-

"Astonishingly naturally Räisänen-Midth played and sang simultaneously, as if having an expressive dialogue between bright and dark sides of her personality. She has similar kind of lyrical and radiantly beautiful tone both in her singing voice and in her violin."

-Helsingin Sanomat-

"Virpi Räisänen-Midth has a reliable, balanced mezzo soprano voice. She is a great discovery for the double role of La Muse and Nicklausse."

-Helsingin Sanomat-

"...creative tone world accented by mezzo-soprano Virpi Räisänen's magnetic charisma and expression."

-Norrbottens Kuriren-

"...the moonlike scenery, which is lightend up by mezzo soprano Virpi Räisänen-Midth's radiant, heart touching singing."

-Koillissanomat-

"Playfull and surprising Virpi Räisänen-Midth shows that one can combine voice and body in many unexpected ways. Sequenza III from Luciano Berio is exploring all the possibilities of a female voice and Virpi was facinating and impressively agile both in her voice and body."

welcome

vr1.jpgVirpi Räisänen, one of Finland's brightest rising singing talents, has garnered an impressive list of honours and achievements both as a mezzo soprano and earlier as a concert violinist. Next to her successful violin career singing was always her other passion. After finishing her singing diploma with honours she has launched a blooming singing career as well.

Now her warm mezzo voice and her strong musicality is leading her from one success to another. Besides mastering the traditional mezzo soprano repertoire, she has also established herself as a champion of contemporary music having world premiered dozens of new works, most of them written and dedicated to her.

Her career received a beautiful beginning with an invitation to 2009 Salzburger Festspiele where Virpi sang one of the leading roles in Luigi Nono's opera Al gran sole carico d'amore. During 2009 she was also seen in the leading role of Elmira in Händel's seldomly performed opera Floridante in The International Händel Festspiele in Halle. 2010 brought her a re-invitation to the Salzburg Festspiele for a role in Wolfgang Rihms' new opera Dionysos, which was revived in Amsterdam DNO (and Holland Festival) in 2011. A busy recital shedule followed next to her opera engagements and during spring 2011 she gave recitals in Amsterdam, Helsinki, Tokyo, Riga and Turku Music Festivals and appeared as a soloist of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra in Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Ligeti Requiem as a soloist of Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France with Esa-Pekka Salonen conducting, soloist of Tapiola Sinfonietta premiering Lotta Wennäkoski's new work Le miroir courbe and appearing on stages in Aix-en-Provence, Turku Music festival and Stift International Music Festival.
